Group for Parents of Difficult Children
8-session group combining education and support
We all know that being responsible for children is not an easy task, particularly when we have children who are stubborn, strong-willed, or oppositional. This 8-session group will focus on the causes of childhood defiance and researched-based strategies to reduce it.
Participants will learn strategies to improve their child’s behavior and have a chance to discuss issues with other parents facing similar problems. Each session will include a 25-minute presentation, followed by a 25-minute group discussion.
Topics will include:
- Understanding the child’s difficult temperament
- How the child’s personality affects the rest of the family
- Why some “discipline styles” work better than others
- Screamfree ways to get your child to listen
- How to deal with symptoms of ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, or Asperger’s Disorder
- Key elements of the structured programs Love and Logic, Collaborative Problem Solving, and The Nurtured Heart Approach will also be discussed.
