A Typical Bluestem Center Evaluation is a 4-step process:
- Step 1: An interview
- Step 2: Psychological testing and physical exam
- Step 3: Diagnosis
- Step 4: Plan for treatment
Key Points:
- Parents, teachers or other childcare professionals may refer patients.
- For the interview, you and your child will initially see a child psychiatrist, developmental pediatrician, nurse practitioner or child psychologist.
- We will request records of school performance and behavior.
- We will take the time to get to know your child and family situation.
- Psychological testing means we test IQ, ability, academic skills, and attention.
- Occasionally, we discover other medical conditions that may require blood tests or other referrals.
- When all of the information is gathered, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan just for your child is created.
- The treatment plan is shared with other professionals involved in your child’s care.
- A thorough evaluation like this is the best way to help your child and family. Bluestem’s professionals are experienced knowledgeable and willing to help!
